Starting January 15, we rolled out an important update to Speechise’s text-to-speech engine. This change introduces a new underlying model designed to deliver faster synthesis, better performance, and improved multilingual support.

As part of this update, the set of available voices has changed, and synthesized speech may sound different from what you were previously used to.

What’s Changed

The text-to-speech engine powering Speechise has been upgraded to a newer model. This upgrade focuses on overall quality and efficiency, resulting in noticeable improvements across the platform.

Key changes include:

  • Updated voice set: Some previously available voices have been removed, and new voices have been added.
  • Different sound characteristics: Because the synthesis model has changed, generated speech may sound slightly different in tone, pacing, or pronunciation.
  • Improved performance: The new model delivers lower latency and increased processing speed.
  • Enhanced multilingual support: Speech generation across supported languages is now more consistent and accurate.

Do I Need to Do Anything?

No action is required. The update is fully completed and automatically applied to all users. Existing workflows continue to work as expected, with the improvements applied behind the scenes.

Why We Made This Update

This change is part of our ongoing effort to improve the Speechise listening experience. By upgrading the text-to-speech model, we’re able to:

  • Reduce generation time
  • Improve speech clarity and naturalness
  • Support multilingual content more effectively
  • Scale performance more reliably

We understand that voice changes can be noticeable, especially if you regularly use specific voices. These differences are expected and reflect the improvements introduced by the new engine.
